Todd J. Albert, MD is the Surgeon-In-Chief Emeritus and Richard Rogers Professor to Advance Spine Care at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is also a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical School. His practice specializes in the treatment of cervical spine disorders as well as degenerative and traumatic conditions of the spine. Prior to joining HSS, he was President of The Rothman Institute and Chairman of Orthopaedics at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals.
Dr. Albert interned at Pennsylvania Hospital. During his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Albert was recognized as the Outstanding Chief Resident. His fellowship in Spinal Surgery was at the Minnesota Spine Center. He was awarded the American Orthopaedic Association’s John J. Fahey Memorial North American Traveling Fellowship.
Dr. Albert is a member of multiple national and international medical societies. He is president of the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons and served as president for the Cervical Spine Research Society and Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Albert has contributed more than 90 book chapters, edited 14 books and published over 450 peer-reviewed articles. He has received outstanding paper awards from the North American Spine Society, the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and from the Cervical Spine Research Society. Dr. Albert serves on the editorial boards for several academic journals. He has been recognized with the John J. Gartland Award for Resident Education and the Jean McDaniel mentorship award at HSS. He has also been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hospital of Special Surgery and the Nicolas Andry Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons.
He currently serves on multiple boards for both businesses and nonprofits. He is Chief Medical Officer of SeeAll AI (a surgical imaging company) and Legent (a national network of orthopedic and spine outpatient centers) and performs leadership coaching and mentorship through TJA Partners LLC. He continues his surgical practice at Hospital for Special Surgery.
