Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
I am Dr. Ki-Eun Chang and curretnly serve as an Active Duty Staff Neurosurgeon at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego as well as an Assistant Professor at the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences. I completed my medical education at Penn State College of Medicine, where I also conducted research at the National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute. I went on to complete my neurosurgical residency training at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where I pursued an enfolded fellowship focused on minimally invasive spine surgery. I then completed a fellowship in complex spine, spinal oncology, and endoscopic spine surgery at Brown University.
I was blessed with the opportunity of being the first surgeon to perform biportal endoscopic spine surgery in the U.S. military system, including the first to perform both cervical endoscopic procedures and endoscopic spinal fusion. I have now trained numerous surgeons and residents in uniportal and biportal endoscopic techniques and is actively working to expand the role of endoscopy in managing complex spinal pathology, including tumors and deformities.
