Mass General Brigham
Dr. Joshua Chalif, MD, PhD, is a senior neurosurgery resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a physician-scientist with a focus on spinal cord electrophysiology and novel therapeutic approaches for restoring function after injury. He earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Dartmouth College and completed both his MD and PhD in neuroscience at Columbia University. His doctoral work explored the structure and function of spinal locomotor circuits, and identified ventral spinocerebellar tract neurons as crucial for mammalian locomotion. He is now applying his interest in spinal cord circuitry to spinal cord injury—concentrating primarily on the intersections between neuroinflammation, disordered spinal networks, and promising neuromodulation therapies. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented nationally on topics ranging from spinal circuit plasticity and neurodegenerative disease to complex spine surgery. He is committed to advancing therapies that bridge basic neuroscience and clinical care.
