Noojan Kazemi MD FACS FRACS is an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Operations for Spine Surgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is also the Director of the Clinical and Research Fellowships in Spine Surgery at University of Michigan.
He received his Medical Degree from the University of Sydney and completed his neurosurgery residency through the Royal North Shore and the Royal Melbourne Hospitals, Australia. He also completed a two-year neurosurgery research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Following residency, he obtained his fellowship training in complex and deformity spine surgery in both the Departments of Orthopedics and Neurosurgery at the University of Washington, followed by a minimally-invasive spine and tumor surgery fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington. He is passionate about resident and fellow education and has been invited numerous times to speak and teach courses nationally and internationally.
He has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as spinal tumors, minimally-invasive surgery and craniocervical distraction injuries. He has also authored several book chapters in major neurosurgery textbooks.
He is a member of CNS, AANS/CNS Spine Section, Society of Minimally-Invasive Spine Surgery, NASS and the American College of Surgeons
His main clinical interests include all aspects of complex spine surgery but in particular minimally-invasive surgical approaches to the spine including treatment of spinal deformity - as well as utilization of the newest techniques including robotic spine surgery. His academic interest lies in spine surgery outcomes research - in particular objective outcomes as well as ergonomics and robotics.
