Dr. Daniel C. Kim is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. He treats patients with cervical, thoracic, and lumbar issues at The Andrews Spine Center.
Dr. Kim is a highly respected spine specialist who has gained a national reputation for his surgical skill and expertise. In 2022, Dr. Kim was recognized by the North American Spine Society's (NASS) SpineLine "20 Under 40" list of the top young spine surgeons in the country.
In addition, Dr. Kim participated in the 2024 Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery(SMISS) Traveling Fellowship. The traveling fellowship provided Dr. Kim the opportunity to visit three of the most esteemed orthopedic and neurosurgical institutes in the world and learn hand-in-hand from some of the top spine surgeons in minimally invasive spine surgery. His journey concluded with a podium talk at the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.
Dr. Kim is deeply committed to providing the most efficient and optimal quality of care for patients using innovative technology. He was the first spine surgeon in Birmingham, Alabama to offer endoscopic spine surgery - an advanced, state-of-the-art, minimally-invasive surgery designed to provide patients with a quicker recovery and less recurring pain than traditional methods.
Dr. Kim has always been fascinated with the intersection between healthcare and technology fields. Growing up in Silicon Valley, he became drawn to the innovation technology offered in the surgical field, particularly in spine care. His early exposure traveling and studying around the country cemented his desire to ensure more efficient and optimal quality of care for his patients through the use of evolving technology.
Originally from San Francisco, California, Dr. Kim earned bachelor's degrees in physiology and Spanish from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also earned a master's degree in physiology from Georgetown University. Dr. Kim earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of South Alabama, where he served as Academic Chief Resident. Dr. Kim also completed a Spine fellowship at one of the birthplaces of modern spine surgery, Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Outside of work, Dr. Kim can be found exploring the outdoors and engaging in activities such as soccer, golf, tennis, or hiking. He and his wife have 2 children.
