Lisa Bonsignore-Opp, MD, is a fourth-year Orthopaedic Surgery Resident at the University of California, San Francisco. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, she completed medical school at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons before returning home to join the UCSF Orthopaedic Surgery Residency, where she is expected to graduate in 2027.
Dr. Bonsignore-Opp’s academic interests center on pediatric spine and trauma, with a research portfolio spanning early-onset scoliosis, pediatric spinal deformity, thoracolumbar trauma, and sagittal alignment. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts in high-impact orthopaedic and spine journals, contributed invited textbook chapters, and her work has been presented nationally and internationally at meetings including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Scoliosis Research Society, and International Pediatric Orthopaedic Symposium. Her research has been supported by competitive funding, including NIH and institutional grants, and she has received multiple awards for scholarly excellence.
In addition to her academic work, Dr. Bonsignore-Opp is actively involved in resident education and leadership. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the UCSF Graduate Medical Education Resident and Fellow Council, representing over 1,300 trainees and partnering with institutional leadership on initiatives related to education, wellness, and advocacy. She also holds leadership roles within the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery focused on curriculum development, wellness, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Following residency, Dr. Bonsignore-Opp plans to pursue dual fellowship training in pediatric orthopaedics and spine surgery, with the goal of building an academic career that bridges childhood and adult spinal deformity care.
