M. Burhan Janjua, MD, FACS, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He is fellowship trained in surgical neuro-oncology and complex spine surgery, with specialized expertise in adult and pediatric spinal deformity. Dr. Janjua has a particular clinical and research interest in spine oncology and currently focuses his research on neuro-oncology, spinal deformity, and deformity-related outcomes.
Dr. Janjua has an extensive research background across multiple neurosurgical subspecialties and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters. He is actively involved in multi-institutional collaborative research efforts, including collaborations with Duke University Medical Center and the University of Pennsylvania.
He is an active member of several professional societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), North American Spine Society (NASS), American Academy of Neurological and Orthopaedic Surgeons (AANOS), and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). During his training, Dr. Janjua received multiple honors, including the ACS Leadership Summit Award, appointment as a Resident Member of the CNS Education Committee, and Best Research Abstract Presentation awards at AANS Annual Meetings.
Currently, Dr. Janjua serves on the Ethics and Professionalism Committee and the Young Surgeons Advisory Committee of NASS, the ACS–HOPE Committee of the American College of Surgeons, the AMA Executive Committee for the International College of Surgeons (ICS), and the Journal Executive Committee for AANOS.
