Dr. Benjamin Elder, MD/PhD is a Professor of Neurosurgery and Orthopedics, and Biomedical Engineering and serves as the Chair of Research for the Department of Neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He specializes in the surgical treatment of complex spinal conditions including spinal deformities and scoliosis, degenerative spine diseases, and spine tumors. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital including an enfolded complex spine fellowship. He then completed a postgraduate fellowship in orthopedic spinal deformity and scoliosis surgery with Dr. Khaled Kebaish at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Elder runs a research lab focusing on bone and cartilage tissue engineering to augment fusion in spinal surgery with NIH R01 funding. Additionally, his clinical research focuses on the effects of bone density in complex spinal surgery and enhancing methods of spinopelvic stabilization.
