University of Chicago
I am Irina-Mihaela Matache, MD from Romania, currently working as a Research Analyst in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL. I am an aspiring neurosurgeon-scientist driven by a deep interest in the human brain and a commitment to advancing the frontiers of the neurosurgical field. My research experience ranges from translational studies, such as investigations of IDH-mutant gliomas and brain injury mechanisms following perinatal asphyxia, to clinical research aimed at improving neurosurgical outcomes. I am currently contributing to projects evaluating quality and outcomes across major neurosurgical domains and also investigating how artificial intelligence can advance neurosurgical practice and research. My long-term vision centers on the integration of neurosurgery, genomics, molecular neuro-oncology, and computational biology. Through this multidisciplinary approach, I aim to bring impactful contributions to the field and help shape the next-generation neurosurgery, where converging technologies revolutionize clinical practice.
